We design around the architecture rather than trying to impose a standard layout. Can By Shakir work with listed buildings in the UNESCO canal ring?
Yes, with the right permits in place. Listed facades and protected interiors in the canal ring have specific rules about structural changes, but the scope of what is possible within those rules is often broader than clients expect. We work alongside your architect or your local permit consultant. By Shakir handles the interior design; permit administration requires a locally registered professional.
My Amsterdam apartment is empty. Can you design it as a rental investment as well as for my own use?
These are genuinely different briefs. A rental investment calls for durability, neutral appeal, and materials that clean easily; a personal home calls for your specific tastes and lifestyle. We do both, but we design one brief at a time. Tell us which it is at the first consultation and we will work from there.
Do you visit Amsterdam for site consultations or is this handled remotely?
Initial consultations happen either at the Tiel showroom or on-site, depending on what is most useful. For an existing furnished property, a site visit often reveals things photos miss. For a new build or stripped shell, the showroom conversation is usually more productive. We will recommend the right approach once you tell us about your project.
